Bach in the World Today – Exploring the Values of Diversity - and Inclusion Through the Life and Work of J.S. Bach

Doreen Rao

Doreen Rao describes the music festival she co-founded with Helmuth Rilling at the University of Toronto from 2004-2009, entitled "Bach in the World Today". Each year, this festival included performances of works by J. S. Bach, as well as companion cantatas commissioned from Canadian composers. Spreading the values of inclusivity and universality present in Bach's choral music, the festival sought to break down barriers and involve as many people as possible from the University and the greater Toronto community.
